St Clement Danes Church and Lord Dowding Statue

What to expect

Central London church has its origins in the 9th century building, but it is the structure built by Sir Christopher Wren that gives the current church its appearance. Memories, monuments and stories adorn every surface of this Anglican church: most of them relating to the Royal Air Force. The buildings airiness and light pervade its spaces, contrasting with the rich dark stained wood of its Baroque decorative detail. Look closely and you notice the RAF references are everywhere.

Directions

Located on a traffic island in the centre of The Strand roadway at its Aldwych end, the church is in walking distance of mainline Charing Cross station and the nearest underground stations are Temple (District and Circle Lines) and Holborn (Central or Piccadilly Lines).
