This Spitfire LF XVIE was the personal aircraft of Air Marshal Sir William Elliot. It was originally painted bright white. Although not operated by No. 601 Squadron, this aircraft was based primarily at Hendon when on active duty. The Spitfire is a single-seater fighter aircraft and one of the most iconic aircraft of all time. It was the only British fighter aircraft produced continuously throughout the Second World War.
