RAF Kenley
What to expect
Three-ish sentence outline of your collection or site that people will see even if only with you for an hour.
Kenley Common, fifty six hectares of green open space surrounding a former Battle of Britain airfield, is a mixture of chalk grassland and ancient woodland set among the gently rolling hills of south London. 1940 saw RAF Kenley play a key role as an 11 Group Sector Station in the Battle of Britain. Evidence of it's wartime role has survived and the blast pens, air raid shelters and runways can still be seen. Today the roar of Merlin engines and machine-gun fire has been replaced by the song of the skylark and the graceful flight of gliders training the pilots of the future.
