Group Captain Bob Iveson

Bob Iveson’s father was in the RAF which inspired him to want to fly. He received an RAF flight scholarship and gained his private pilot’s license before joining the RAF. Bob flew Harriers in the early 1970s and deployed to the South Atlantic flying operations over the Falklands from HMS Hermes in 1982. He was shot down while flying a low level ground attack sortie over the Falklands. Bob evaded capture for three days before being rescued by helicopter.

Bob Iveson later converted to Tornado and commanded No. 617 Squadron during the Gulf War 1991. He retired from the RAF in 1999.
