WIng Commander David Herriot
As a boy David Herriot had wanted to drive a steam train or be a surgeon but his first flight in a passenger aircraft changed his life. Joining the RAF in 1969 he was selected to be a navigator and joined No. 15 Squadron in Germany which, in the event of war with the Warsaw Pact countries, would fly low-level strike operations against airfields in East Germany. David then flew Buccaneers with No. 12 Squadron from RAF Honington in the maritime strike role, and then with No. 16 Squadron, again in Germany amassing nearly 2500 hours in the Buccaneer.
