Flying captured German aircraft …
Captain Eric 'Winkle' Brown
Before the Second World War Eric Brown was a member of the RAF Volunteer Reserve. He is remembered, however, as a Royal Navy officer and a renowned test pilot. He holds the World Record for the number of different types of aircraft flown (487).
After the war, Eric was heavily involved in the testing of captured German and Italian aircraft. His fluency in German helped him gain the trust of many ex-Luftwaffe ground crew, who would assist in the preparation of captured aircraft.
