The Defiant has a fairly conventional cockpit layout for its time, although it is marked by the lack of a gunsight owing to the absence of any forward-firing weapons. The canopy gave reasonable visibility although the position of the engine exhaust ports high on the forward fuselage could disrupt vision. This was especially true at night, when their heat glow grew more prominent.
