The Adaptable Battle

Fairey Battles were relatively cheap and easy to build. At the outbreak of the Second World War, it was the most numerous bomber in RAF service.

Its career as a frontline bomber was short lived as it was relatively slow and vulnerable to both anti-aircraft fire and attack by enemy fighters.

However, the Battle’s airframe was easily modified, which provided valuable training to the next generation of bomber crews.
